Great Luggage Options for Family Trips

Luggage for Family Travel

Away, Large Carry-On
I had always thought there was luggage and there was slightly better luggage but really as long as the suitecase rolled and adequately carried my stuff, it was good enough. I had used the "Travel Pro" brand of luggage for years. It had received decent reviews and I saw a lot of flight attendants using it (however, not pilots as my husband never owned Travel Pro, that's whole different story) so I assumed it must be good. I would agree, it was good. It lasted through quite a few vacations without any issues.
Then I stumbled upon Away. This came up as one of those random ads on Facebook and/or Instagram due to all of the travel research I do (you know those Internet stalkers know how to get ya). This made me aware of the brand but then I started seeing more articles about it, I began to notice people at the airport with them and decided to do more research.
When I read Away offers a lifetime warranty on the wheels, handles, zipper and any cracks in the outside shell, I finally thought maybe I should at least order one to check it out but I still hesitated due to the price $245 (for the bigger carry-on). Then my wonderful husband decided to get it for me as a gift and it was all I had hoped for.
This back rolls so easily and smooth either upright or tilted that my kids ask to push my suitcase  around the airport.

Inside of the large Away Carry-on
I did a little test between the Away Bigger Carry-On and my Travel Pro carry on suitcase. I had always thought I could fit a bit more into a soft sided suitcase because it can stretch out but I filled my Travel Pro and then moved everything in that suitcase into the Away and I had plenty of room to spare. I did have to get used to not having an outside pocket to just slide a boarding pass or charger into. The other amazing thing was the Away suitcase was so much lighter than my Travel Pro. This makes it so much easier to lift into the overhead bin on an airplane or even just into the back of the car.
Charger located in the top of the suitcase
One of the great things about the Away suitcase is it comes with a charger that slides right into the top of the suitcase so you can charge your phone, iPad, whatever at the airport or on the plane. It easily pops out so you can keep it with you at your seat on the plane. I learned and was reminded a few times by TSA that you need to remove the battery when you go through security.

Travel Bag & Charger
The Away bag came with this cute little travel case along with a charger and different adapters. I just put all of my chargers (phone, watch, iPad) all in this case and it keeps everything neat and organized.

Obviously, I get nothing from Away for typing this information up. It is my honest feedback for the suitcase. I have had it for over a year now and my friends will tell you I'm always talking about it and selling people on it. Now the question is whether or not to splurge on the larger suitcases, backpack or duffle bag?

FOR THE KIDS

bags for the kids

Now I love my children and I love traveling with them but I'm not sure I can spend $245 on a suitcase for them, therefore, they don't have Away bags, instead they have perfectly sized for them eBags. These are the eBags Mother Lode TLS Mini 21" Wheeled Carry-On Duffel. At first glance on the website they may seem close to the same price as an Away bag but eBags always has a sale or they give you cash back (you can get 25% off your first purchase) so you can get a better deal than the list price. The kids really enjoyed that they were able to pick their own color of suitcase.

You can pack a lot into these suitcases as they are technically duffle bags so they expand quite a bit and the kids are still able to easily roll them around the airport and in and out of hotels on their own. They have lots of compartments so it's easy to keep things organized. You can fit a lot of items in the front pocket so we usually put their airplane activities in there along with a change of clothes keeping them easily accessible.

The eBag can carry a booster seat!
One of the most convenient things my husband discovered about the kids eBags is there is a strap that is conveniently tucked away in a tiny pocket at the top of the suitcase that allows the kids to easily attach their booster seats and carry them around THEMSELVES! Woohoo! This gives us so much more freedom because we all know carrying those booster seats around is a pain.

We have used the eBags for more than a year now and they are still in wonderful condition and I can't think of any complaints we have about them thus far. They are lightweight, easy for the kids to maneuver on their own and when on sale, a great value.

Comment with your favorite travel luggage. I would love to hear what you use or if you own any of the bags we mentioned please feel free to share any feedback we may have left out.
